Your visit to Newgrange includes actual entry to the passage tomb grave. Your guide will take you through the marvels of the construction and the time taken to build the tomb along with the mysteries of the actual people buried there. The roof box above the entry point plays a special prominence. At dawn on the morning of the Winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, a shaft of sunlight permeates the interior of the passage. St. Patrick visited here in 450 and his cross is still on site. In 1101 the site was handed over to the church and it flourished until 1647 when Cromwell's army laid siege and massacred 3000 of its inhabitants. Cormacs' chapel is the jewel of Cashel. The site also incorporates the roofless Gothic cathedral and a round tower (92ft) which is the oldest and tallest building on the rock.

Holy Cross Abbey: Founded in 1169 by the Benedictines, Holy Cross holds a splinter from the True Cross as the legend goes.
